The transport strategy has been designed to set out how the transport system will support sustainable economic growth, aiming to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 whilst continuing to support measures put in place by the government due to the pandemic.

The strategy has been put together by England’s Economic Heartland Strategic Transport Forum. They feel that the Coronavirus pandemic has shown how much scope there is for flexible and remote working and how these could positively influence changes in the transport system long term.

England’s Economic Heartland is working on developing this strategy, so that alongside national interventions such as the ban on new petrol and diesel cars from 2035, they can continue to protect and enhance the transport system that serves an economically important region of England.
